  • Director of Local Services
    £Competitive

We’re building a new future for Jersey that is more modern, sustainable and prosperous for all. It’s a future that will see people from business, the voluntary and community sector and the Government come together to collaborate in providing public services in a way they’ve never done before. We need talented leaders to join us for a career-defining opportunity: to help make change happen in this unique, historic island.

We want to work in partnership to deliver more services and activities for Islanders locally, closer to where they live. We need to understand the needs of all our communities to ensure we are delivering what’s required in the most effective way and in the right locations.

You’ll be leading liaison with voluntary organisations, charities and the Parishes to establish stronger partnerships and joint working opportunities across all Government departments.  Your brief will include overseeing our Library services, establishing a more local service offer, as well as the Office of the Superintendent Registrar, ensuring that we meet our statutory requirements in the registration of key life events.

As your CV shows, you’ve led plenty of organisational change before. Whatever the project or service, you’ve ensured that customers always get a great experience by engaging with multiple stakeholders and translating complex information into clear direction. You recognise the value and importance of the voluntary and community sector and are passionate about working in partnership.

As a strategic thinker you will understand the benefits that preventative services can bring to a community. You’ll be credible and at home in a political environment. Meanwhile, you’ll also be used to managing performance and motivating teams to achieve. With an understanding of policy and governance in your area, you’ll play your part in a momentous move that will benefit a community of 100,000 people.

Perhaps you have a high-profile background in business, the voluntary sector or government. Or you have an outstanding track record in public sector transformation.

Bring the boundless talent we’re looking for and you can help lead the biggest transformation in government for a generation. Join Team Jersey and find your unique place in the world.

    Job Description
  • Principal of Highlands of College
    £Competitive

Own the change. Shape the future

An exciting and strategically significant position has arisen within the Government of Jersey and in the Skills and Learning Directorate for a principal at Highlands College and University College Jersey. The Government of Jersey has high aspirations for building a world-class education system of which Highlands College and University College Jersey is a key part.

The college is the sole provider of further technical and vocational education in the Bailiwick of Jersey and plays a prominent role within the Channel Islands for delivery of higher education provision. Highly valued for its major contribution to the vocational and technical education in Jersey, the college is a key provider of apprenticeship and personal and professional development programmes. With more than 5,000 enrolments in any one year, delivered by its dedicated, skilled and committed teaching and support staff, the college is well placed to play a major role in developing the talent and workforce of the future economy for Jersey.

Following the retirement of the principal of Highlands College, we are seeking an inspirational leader who will further build on our strong foundations. A credible ambassador for technical and vocational education locally, within the Channel Islands, regionally, nationally and internationally, you will demonstrate an innovative approach, ensuring that the college is effectively positioned to make the most of future opportunities for our community. You will be developing high-profile relationships with our business community to ensure we achieve maximum impact on the Island’s economy.

This is an exciting role that would suit a current or aspiring principal within the further education sector, ideally with a curriculum or employer engagement background. You must have experience of successfully working in a complex environment and be politically astute as well as innovative with the capability to deliver on our ambitious plans. Your ability to design educational pathways and solutions appropriate to the context of Jersey is essential.

With terms and conditions of employment that are well above that of most UK colleges, we  dare to be different and we are proud of our unique advantageous position.

If you are passionate about education and are looking for an opportunity to make a significant difference to the education system for an entire jurisdiction, with the possibility of being world leading in a special and scenic setting, this may be the role for you. A generous relocation package will be offered to the successful candidate. Training and support within the role will also be available as part of the onboarding process.
