We’re continuing to build a future for Jersey that is more modern, sustainable and prosperous for all. It’s a future that brings together people, business and government in a more collaborative way. This approach is called Team Jersey and it’s a milestone in our history: one island, one community, one government – and one exciting future. We need talented leaders to join us for a career-defining opportunity: to make change happen on a unique, historic island.
We want a safe, just and fair society enhancing the quality of life for islanders. One where vulnerable young people and adults are protected from harm and everyone feels safe. As Deputy Chief of Police, you will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, supporting the Chief of Police in leading the Force, and contributing to the co-ordination and direction of operations to ensure a highly efficient policing service, upholding objectives and values, setting direction, and building public trust in Police services.
It’s a critical role where you’ll report directly to the Chief of Police, also acting in his absence, where necessary. You’ll support the Chief of Police with budgets and expert management as well as the provision of a co-ordinated emergency and public protection service. You’ll also assist with the development of the strategic and, where appropriate, operational relationship between the Government via the Director General for Justice and Home Affairs, linking into relevant projects, strategies and programmes.
To be successful, you must have held operational command at a senior level. You’ll therefore know about policing procedures and techniques plus relevant legislation. We’ll also expect you to have ideally passed the Senior Police National Centre and completed the Strategic Command Course and gained a recognised leadership qualification. And in addition to this, you must bring proven experience of leading change and transforming cultures. You’ll now be ready to apply this expertise to a brand-new challenge. A credible senior figure who’s adept at strategic thinking, you’ll inspire a large team and connect with a range of influential people. Politically aware and familiar with policy and governance in your area, you’ll play your part in a momentous move that will benefit a 100,000-strong island community.
With a high-profile policing background, you’ll bring the management and leadership qualities required to deliver a policing mission to catch criminals, protect the vulnerable and get to incidents quickly when islanders need help. Join the States of Jersey Police and find your unique place in the world.
The closing date for this role will be 27th May 2022.
